Surin Islands, Thailand, Yacht Charter, Sailing

The Surin Islands

Popular for sailing, diving, and snorkeling, the Surin island chain is renowned for its beautiful underwater scenery with a diverse array of marine life and colorful coral reefs. Located in the Andaman Sea, just off Thailand’s west coast, they are one of the most popular islands in the country as well as internationally. The five islands that make up the Surin archipelago, including Koh Surin Nuea and Koh Surin Tai, offer minimal infrastructure and are ideal for exploring more of the natural wealth on offer. The other three islands are Koh Ri, Koh Khai, and Koh Klang.

The islands are also home to the Moken, an indigenous sea-gypsy tribe, that have lived on the islands for centuries, and still maintain their traditional way of life. Don’t miss a visit to Ao Tao, a beautiful bay of pristine coral reefs located in the north of Surin Nuea, which belongs to Mu Koh Surin National Park. The bay is one of the highlights and best travelled destinations in the region, plus, a nesting ground for hawksbill and green sea turtles, sadly endangered.

Koh Chang

Koh Chang is located in the Gulf of Thailand and is the second-largest island in the country. Most often associated with pristine beaches, lush jungles, and crystal clear waters that are perfect for all water-related activities and thus ideally suited to sailing and charter enthusiasts. The island is also a popular destination for nightlife and parties on the beach, such as the ones on White Sand Beach, Kai Bae Beach and Lonely Beach. The latter is home to the famous Ting Tong Bar with famous DJs from the techno/house style of music.

You might also hear Koh Chang referred to as “Elephant Island” for its elephant-shaped headland. In addition to cruising and sailing, the island is home to seven waterfalls, with Klong Plu and Than Mayom being the most famous.
